Summer and Spring Break Art Camps

Students want to learn real, lasting art skills they can utilize in their artistic journeys. Our program delivers just that, through age-appropriate, individualized instruction and step-by-step demonstrations of professional techniques, tips, and artistic methods.

Our curriculum is designed to be accessible and inspiring for all skill levels, regardless of prior experience or natural ability.

Every student is treated like a young artist in training, and every week offers the chance to grow in confidence, technique, and creative self-expression.

Camps are split into three age-specific classrooms: Ages 4–9/Ages 9–12/Teen Camps for ages 12–18

Each group enjoys a rich and engaging creative experience, guided by passionate instructors who help students develop their personal ideas into meaningful works of art.

Unlike themed camps, each student selects their own subject matter—from portraits to landscapes, animals to architecture, cartooning to manga—and learns the relevant techniques that match their choice. For example, a student who chooses to draw a face will be introduced to portraiture and facial proportions, while a student interested in drawing architecture may explore perspective and structural drawing.

The students will also be guided to explore various mediums: from graphite, color pencil, copic markers, watercolor, tempera, gouache, acrylic, and oil we teach it all. All materials are included in the camp tuition, and we proudly provide professional-grade art supplies to ensure students can achieve strong results—no matter their skill level.

Camps are designed to stand alone or build upon each other, making them ideal whether attending one week or several.

Space is limited to just 15 students per class, with a low student-to-instructor ratio of 6:1 to ensure each artist receives the personalized attention they need to grow.

Digital Procreate Art Camps

A long-requested addition to our program, we’re excited to officially launch our Procreate Camp, using the industry-favorite digital art tool—Procreate App.

This specialized camp runs daily from 3–5 PM and is limited to 5 students to ensure highly personalized, one-on-one instruction. It’s ideal for young artists—and even adults—ready to take their digital skills beyond casual doodling.

Students follow a structured digital curriculum and receive a Digital Passport Card to track their progress. They’ll move step-by-step from the basics to more advanced techniques like layering, brush control, color management, selections, and effects—learning how to use Procreate like a professional illustrator.

Unlike YouTube videos that jump to the finished result and skip critical steps, our camp provides real-time, guided instruction where students can ask questions, get feedback, and learn faster with fewer frustrations.

Prerequisites:

  • Students must be at least 12 years old (younger students may attend with instructor approval)

  • Must have previously attended a traditional art class at Houston School of Art & Design

  • Students must bring their own iPad with the Procreate App pre-installed

  • While this camp is designed for youth, adult students are welcome—we believe digital tools (and great teaching) should be accessible to all creative minds.

Seasonal Art Camps

Our Fine Art Camps offers a variety of seasonal camps for Spring Break, Summer, Thanksgiving and Winter! Our schedule for holidays are in line with Spring Branch ISD’s school schedule.

During Thanksgiving and Winter Break we do a holiday themed camp that includes: one day creating clay ornaments and one day of watercolor painting project that can be used as holiday cards or a gift. They may also select to choose a project to complete like in our normal Summer Camp classes in lieu of the optional holiday themed projects. Check the registration page for dates and pricing.

Monday: Students will learn about what artist do, different kinds of artist, art tools and how to use them on the first day. We will also teach drawing skills through various excercise sheets. Students will also get to start on their own drawings which will be transfered to illustration board to later paint, color and work on throughout the week.

Repeat students: will have the option to skip the intro and either go straight to drawing their images and transfer onto an illustration board or bring an image printed from home to work on instead.  Beginning freehand will also be offered to repeat students who are interested in progressing to the next stage of their art!

Tuesday: Students will learn color theory and paint a color wheel and learn about complimentary colors and how to make warm and cool browns and tints and shades.

Repeat students: will continue to work on their own artwork with an instructor and are not required to do color theory.

Wednesday: Students will continue their own art projects with the art instructor helping them.

Holiday camps will offer clay projects on this day to create ornaments and seasonal clay projects. Clay is NOT offered during the summer camps.

Thursday: Students will continue to work on their artwork they have been working on throughout the week with their assigned instructor.

Friday: On Friday, all students will solely work on their art pieces and get the finishing touches added!

Every Friday there is a pizza party for students who attend 10 AM – 3 PM!

Teens will work on any medium they choose; watercolor, colored pencils, mixed-media, acrylic or graphite. They may bring drawings or images from home that they would like to work on with our trained instructors or choose from our library of images. We encourage teens to build on their art style and will help them to improve in realism.

Teens may focus their artwork on any style they choose; whether it is their own or one they would like to learn. Some examples include: portraits, wild-life, realism, hyper-realism, expressionism, cartooning, self-portrait, manga/anime, architecture and more.
